STEEL TAKEOFF SOFTWARE · EUROPE
Steel takeoff software for IPE, HEA and HEB drawings
SteelFlo is steel takeoff software that reads European structural drawings: IPE, HEA, HEB, HEM, UPN, UPE, angles and hollow sections are found across a PDF set, boxed for review, and exported as a bill of materials in kg/m and metres.
The database holds 4,700+ sections across six standards, including the full EN range of I-beams, H-sections and channels.
The first 3 takeoffs are free with no card. Paid plans are billed in US dollars from $399 a month.
For steel shops across Europe that still count members from PDF drawings by hand. Let the software find them first, then check its work.

THE EN RANGE
European sections, found by designation
European drawings name a section by family and depth: IPE 300 is a parallel-flange I-beam 300 mm deep, HEB 240 is a wide-flange H-section 240 mm deep. That makes the designation reliable to match, and SteelFlo then applies the catalogue weight for that exact section.
IPE
IPE 80 through IPE 750, plus the lighter and heavier variants.
HEA, HEB, HEM
Light, standard and heavy wide-flange H-sections, and the extra-light HEAA.
IPN
Taper-flange I-beams to DIN 1025-1, still common on older drawings.
UPN and UPE
Taper-flange and parallel-flange channels, from small trimmers up to UPN 400.
Angles
Equal and unequal angles to EN 10056-1.
Hollow sections
Square, rectangular and circular hollow sections to EN 10210 and EN 10219.
MIXED SETS
Real projects rarely stick to one standard
A European job often carries more than EN sections. A UK-designed building may use UB and UC; an export project may call for a British or Indian section; imported steel can show up with its own naming. SteelFlo works out which standard a drawing follows and handles the six it supports in one database, so a mixed set is a single takeoff and not a spreadsheet of conversions.
It also reads member schedules. Where a plan shows only a mark and the section sits in a schedule table, the mark is resolved to the section. Anything that cannot be resolved is flagged for you.
Why this matters is covered in why a takeoff tool needs more than one standard, and W-shape metric equivalents shows how US and European sections line up.
REVIEW AND EXPORT
Your estimator stays in charge of the count
The AI finds and boxes members. Your estimator confirms them: bulk-confirm the clear ones, open the flagged ones with the drawing beside them, reject what is not steel. The count is the number of boxes you approved. Then export a CSV bill of materials, a cut list, a nesting order sheet that fits pieces onto stock lengths, or run the verified list through the pricing engine with your own rates.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Straight answers
01Does SteelFlo read IPE, HEA, HEB and HEM sections?
Yes. IPE beams, the HE wide-flange family (HEA, HEB, HEM and the lighter HEAA), IPN taper-flange beams, UPN and UPE channels, EN angles and EN hollow sections are all in the EN section database. Callouts such as IPE 300, HEB 240 or HEA 200 are matched on every page.
02Can it handle designations printed with spaces, dashes or extra text?
It reads the usual variants, for example IPE300, IPE 300 and IPE-300, and hollow sections written like 150x100x6 RHS or SHS 100x100x5. Where a callout is ambiguous it is flagged so your estimator can decide, rather than guessed.
03Does it report weight in kg/m and tonnes?
Metric drawings are reported in metric units: kg/m for section weights, metres for lengths and kilograms for totals. Divide by 1,000 if you work in tonnes.
04Is pricing in euros?
No. Billing is in US dollars: Pro is $399/month, Business $599/month, Enterprise from $1,499/month. The first 3 takeoffs are free with no credit card.
05Does it read drawings in languages other than English?
The section designations themselves are standardised, so IPE, HEA and UPN callouts read the same on a German, French or Spanish drawing. Notes and title blocks in other languages are not translated, and results on non-English notes sheets should be checked in review. Try a sample from your own country on the free allowance.
06Does it work on scanned drawings?
Scanned and raster PDFs are supported. They take longer than text-based PDFs and the result depends on scan quality. Every detection is reviewed by your estimator before the bill of materials is exported.
07How accurate is it?
The published figure is 95-99% accuracy for AI detection combined with human verification, not raw AI output.
